Rosemary for Remembrance

  • Union Hall 1750 Wewatta Street, Suite 144 Denver, CO, 80202 United States (map)

In alignment with the exhibition To Offer/To Leave guest curated by Kiera McIntosh, we invite you to Union Hall for an evening of performances inspired by William Shakespeare's drama, Hamlet.

In the transcendent presentation, Rosemary for Remembrance, performers Alana Mars and Maria Morera embody the ethereal essence of Shakespeare's Ophelia, bringing a fresh perspective to this often underrepresented character. Their performance, rich in deliberate gesture, movement, and song, elevates Ophelia from the depths of tragedy, inviting the audience into an immersive, dreamlike exploration of her legacy. This production draws viewers into a transformative space — a vivid interlude where every motion and melody breathes life back into the realm once inhabited by Ophelia's spirit. Mars and Morera seamlessly fuse memory and reality, presenting a narrative that not only captivates but resonates, transcending the confines of tragedy to touch something profoundly sublime.

Alana Mars

Alana Mars is an alt-pop musician based in Denver, CO. She has been performing and writing for over a decade, starting in the folk scene with a band called Sister Neapolitan. Heavily inspired by the sounds of the 60s & 70s and her 2012 tumblr playlist, Alana works to create a sound that blends both acoustic and electronic instruments that compliment her confessional-style songwriting. Alana's self confessed holy trinity to her songwriting (mother, daughter & unholy spirit respectively) consists of Stevie Nicks, Lana Del Rey & Phoebe Bridgers. Currently, she plays with a band filled with hotties consisting of drummer: Nick Lyon, guitarist: Stevenson Sakalian, bassist: True Morse and prior bandmate/supporting vocalist: Katie Thurston. Since the universe cosmically brought them together they've played countless shows, toured nationally, & recorded exclusive vinyl in NYC!

María Paula Morera Núñez

María Paula Morera Núñez is a costarrican performance artist based in Denver. Their work combines classical ballet, contemporary dance techniques with body movement research from fashion shows, magazines and tv shows that they grew up watching in the early 2000’s in Costa Rica and influenced the way they evolved into a queer person . María is constantly interested in decolonizing the ideas of beauty through movement studies that feel healing for themselves and challenge the spectator’s perspectives.
