Object Empathy curatorial talk with Kiah Butcher

  • Union Hall 1750 Wewatta Street, Suite 144 Denver, CO, 80202 United States (map)

Join us for a digital conversation with Kiah Butcher, the guest curator of Object Empathy. Moderated by Union Hall’s Chief Curator Arielle Myers, we will dive into how the work of three local artists follow themes of ancestry, individual experience, and family.

Do inanimate objects invoke empathy? In a material world, humans collect, buy, lose, trade, create things. We cherish objects and pass emotional sensibilities to lifeless materials. Object Empathy curated by Kiah Butcher features three Colorado-based artists. Interdisciplinary artist Alejandra Abad, designer and photographer Marco Cousins, and painter Daniel Granitto explore and reimagine sentimentality through intimate and personal practices. Following themes of ancestry, individual experience, and family, personal effects are displayed alongside curated artwork as ‘human artifacts’ building a bridge between empathy and objectivity.
