Curatorial Talk with Robert Martin

Join us for a virtual curatorial talk with Robert Martin, the curator behind the story of you and me. We will be discussing the concept, inspiration and selected works in the four person exhibition. There will be time for Q&A at the end!

This event will be live-streamed to Union Hall’s YouTube starting at 6:00pm MST.

About the Curator

Robert Martin earned their BFA in Studio Art from the University of Wisconsin-Stout (Drawing and Sculpture, 2017), and their MFA in Studio Practices at the University of Colorado-Boulder (Painting & Drawing, 2021). They have exhibited works at Bermudez Projects in Los Angeles, 1969 Gallery in New York, GOCA in Colorado Springs, Sierra Arts Gallery in Reno, IDS Tower in Minneapolis, the Valley in Taos, and along Colorado’s Front Range. They were a 2020 Rough Gems Curator at Union Hall in Denver, a 2019 NEST Grant recipient at CU-Boulder, and their work was featured in UW-Stout’s 2017 Journal of Student Research. Most recently, in the Fall of 2021, Martin was awarded the New American Paintings Emerging Artist Grant, and was a featured artist in the Denver Art Museum’s 2022 Untitled series this June. Martin currently lives and works in Chicago, IL.

About the exhibition

the story of you and me features select works by four artists – Erickson Díaz-Cortés (he/him), Jordan Ramsey Ismaiel (they/them), Em Van Loan (they/them), and Robert Martin (they/them). These artists have created work about and inspired by their intimate relationships; both with others and with themselves. Documenting the quieter and sometimes deeper moments of love and light, the exhibition is indulgent in earnestness and sentimentality.
