July 29 — August 28, 2021
The first exhibition focusing on the multidisciplinary project They Rage, organized by photographer Summer Taylor and facilitator Shammai Mading. MATTER IS MINIMUM includes images and audio made during the summer of 2020, when They Rage conducted a series of interviews with black and brown women and non-binary people in Denver, providing space for the expression of of their anger.
About They Rage
They Rage is an ongoing multidisciplinary project organized by Shammai Mading and Summer Taylor. Initially conceptualized as a thesis project, They Rage was inspired largely by Audre Lorde’s 1981 speech, “The Uses of Anger: Women Responding to Racism”, as well as work by Patricia Hill Collins, Patrisse Cullors, Deborah J. Cohan, Barbara Ransby and the ongoing collective work of black feminist theorists. They Rage aims to examine the ubiquitous nature of anger, while understanding the complexities of processing this emotion in relation to individual’s backgrounds and experiences.

About the Artists
Summer Taylor (she/her) is a photographer most recently based in Paris, France, who focuses on the documentation of representation, vulnerability, emotion and the politicized body. Summer is fascinated with the dynamic relationship that develops during a photoshoot between the photographer and the subject, and believes it is integral in creating a collaborative piece created by both the photographer and the subject of the work.
Shammai Mading (she/her) began her studies in Art History, later transitioning to Sociology, while still carrying a deep respect for and interest in the arts. Shammai works actively to build and foster community whether that be working with students to organize within their communities or simply lending a hand and an ear for development of ideas and projects. After partnering in They Rage initially as a participant, Shammai saw an opportunity to assist as a facilitator; helping create a space in which others could be raw, unashamed, and honest.
