The Storytellers: Acapella Songs and Stories for our Country

  • Union Hall 1750 Wewatta Street, Suite 144 Denver, CO, 80202 United States (map)

Come enjoy an intimate concert of storytelling and acapella music, which will be a meditation on the themes of "Poems for Our Country" by one of Denver's premier acapella groups. The Storytellers are a multi-cultural, all-male vocal quintet that fuses the power of song and narrative to build community. They’ve sung all over Colorado, partnering with organizations to create spaces for people connect through the healing art of acapella.

For their first performance at Union Hall, The Storytellers will to weave together 3 narratives, inspired by an African fable, where they each encountered different, yet powerful circumstances that turned expectation on its head. The narratives will feature stories from:

Alejandro Fuentes, an undocumented educator, performer and advocate who became the first DACA recipient to become an educator in the history of the United States and whose story was featured on the floor of the US Senate.

Wisdom Amouzou, a Togolese immigrant, is the co-founder of Empower Community High School: an innovative high school in its inaugural year founded on the belief that families thrive when education is co-created with community and led by students.

Brenton Weyi, an award-winning creative polymath, son of Congolese immigrants, inaugural Playwright Fellow at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, TEDx organizer, and traveler to nearly 70 nations who uses the power of storytelling to illuminate parts of our world that go unseen and the power of words to cultivate humanity.

The narratives by these three men will be supplemented by a medley of songs from the full group, which also features:

Brodie Kinder, a multi-genre singer/songwriter, Up with People alumnus, and world traveler whose music aims to connect and invigorate the human spirit to unite a room full of strangers.

Devin Stone, a multi-instrumental musician, acapella arranger, developer, and study in multiple cultures who believes in the power of music to break barriers and bring groups together across all boundaries.

Doors open at 6:30 and light refreshments will be served. The performance will begin promptly at 7pm. Please reserve your ticket below!
