Living Rooms
Saul Acevedo Gomez and Kate Stone
August 22 — October 19, 2024
Living Rooms delves into the dual perspectives of Saul Acevedo Gomez and Kate Stone, offering two unique lenses to ponder the many hidden narratives woven into our surroundings. Through his 2D drawings, Gomez transforms gallery spaces into vibrant theaters where vivid colors and whimsical inhabitants come alive, reflecting his inner world. On the other hand, with her animation works employing 2D and 3D materials, Stone focuses on the intrinsic connection of nature in domestic space, drawing attention to often-overlooked elements. The artwork melds abstract elements with everyday motifs, aiming to reshape and redefine both. Together, their works create a dialogue between the physicality of the spaces and the imaginative landscapes within the artists' minds.

About the Artists
Saul Acevedo Gomez (he/him) was born in Mexico and moved to the US at a young age. Although his identity was displaced, coming from a family of artists, it was evident that he would continue the same creative path. Despite an initial lack of support for his aspirations, years of dedication and perseverance led Saul to graduate with a BFA from California State University, Stanislaus, in 2019. Over the past five years, his commitment to his craft has taken him to exhibit in prominent art scenes such as Mexico City, New York City, and Denver.
Saul’s work is characterized by his surrealistic, abstract, and conceptual design, exploring themes of transformation, our relationship with nature, the uncivilized within us, spirituality, the human experience, and other subjects. His main goal with drawing is to elevate it to a new level of experience and give the medium the recognition it deserves.
Kate Stone (she/her) is a Brooklyn-based artist working across installation, sculpture and animation to explore the domestic uncanny and the ways that natural and mythological forces shape our environment. Kate received a BA from Bard College and an MFA from Parsons the New School for Design. She has been awarded the Tierney Fellowship, The Lotos Foundation Prize, an FST StudioProjects Grant and a Kone Foundation Grant. She has attended residencies at NARS Foundation, Artists Alliance LES Studio Program, Kone Foundation, MASS MoCA and Mudhouse Residency in rural Greece. Her work has been exhibited at 601Artspace, bitforms gallery, Cuchifritos Gallery + Project Space, Dinner Gallery, FiveMyles, Ortega y Gasset Projects, Rubber Factory, Spring Break Art Show, South Bend Museum of Art, The Museum of Broken Relationships and Transmitter Gallery, among others.
